Established in 1948 by Dr. C.L Emerson and Dr. W.R Cuming in Massachusetts, the company embarked on government sponsored materials research and development programs for defence applications, evolving to microwave absorber products for the commercial communication market.In 1978, the company was taken over by W.R Grace & Company with major activities in the chemical industry, leading to an augmentation of the company's technological focus. The Belgian plant was extended to 10.000 sqm, followed by an update of the plant's machinery. Emerson & Cuming MP (E&C MP) was founded as an independent company on a going concern basis, after Grace's decision to sell the microwave business in 1996. All intellectual property remaining unaffected, E&C MP has as such capacities developed based upon a history going back to 1948.

Emerson & Cuming is a pioneer and a market leader in the field of elctromagnetic radiation absorbing materials, anechoic chambers, shielding and specialty dielectrics.The product lines focus around Microwave Materials and Anechoic Chambers.Microwave Materials control Electromagnetic Radiation by shielding, absorbing, transforming of electromagnetic waves or a combination of these effects.Anechoic Chambers: shielded test enclosures (Faraday cages) lined with microwave absorbing material which create a space in which electromagnetic measurements can be performed without perturbations. As such, E&C MP is a worldwide leading supplier of high performance chambers for EMI and RFI microwave testing.Application of both products is found in the advanced communication and aerospace/defense markets, and in the consumer electronics segment, multimedia systems, security alarms, etc.

With headquarters in Belgium - manufacturing plants are located in Belgium (Westerlo) and the USA (Randolph, Ma) - sales outlets in France, the UK and Japan are complemented with distributors spread throughout all continents.
