Flight Training Organization

Ostend Air College was established in 1995 and its main mission is to train future airline pilots. In the year 2000 the organisation was awarded the title of B- FTO -001, the first approved flight training organisation in Belgium . The FTO is run by a dynamic, innovating team that reflects a total commitment to quality. In 2004 a joint venture with KHBO (Katholieke Hogeschool Brugge Oostende, associatie KU-leuven) and Ben Air Flight Academy was established in order to become market leader in the very near future.

All training courses meet the European licensing requirement JAR-FCL and are approved by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority. Ostend Air College FTO offers the following training programs:- Integrated airline transportation pilot program (ATPL)The applicant has the option to attend a full 24-month training program, evening classes or the professional bachelor in aviation training program through the KHBO. This module is the first program in Belgium that upgrades pilot training to academic level with a diploma at the end of the training cycle.- Modular Instrument rating course (IRI)This module is designed for private pilots wishing to upgrade their license for flying in adverse weather condition or at night.- Flight Instructor course (FI)This specialistion course is organised for commercial pilots who want that little extra on their CV. A pre-entry test is mandatory. Upgrade programs to Instrument Rating Instructor and Class Rating Instructor are available.- Multi Engine Aeroplanes Single Pilot Class rating (ME SPA) This program is open for pilots who are attending a modular training program towards the commercial pilot pilot program.- Stress Management coursesThe program is intended for captains of industry wishing to combine their experience with the latest crew resource management techniques.

All training facilities are located on Ostend International Airport, which is very suited for all types of flight training. The main asset includes a 3200-m instrument runway with adequate concentration of radionavigation aids in the immediate vicinity of the airport, combined with low airspace congestion.The new building, built in 2002, meets even the most demanding European requirements with spacious classrooms, multiple cublicles for de-briefing and a well-equipped operations room.The fleet consists of 3 Grob G115-aeroplanes in fibre glass, 1 Piper PA28-181 2 Robin R200 and a twin-engined Piper PA44-180. Emphasis is put on modern avionics with all aircraft for advanced training equipped with HSI and VOR-ADF RMI. A procedure trainer (simulator) completes the equipment list.

Ostend Air College has developed a quality system that is close to the ISO-9001 standard. A high degree of discipline, including service dress regulations, is maintained throughout all training programs. Furthermore the staff has developed its own reference manuals and syllabi for ground school, which is a unique feature in Europe. ICAO has attributed the school the call sign OCO for flight planning purposes and subsequently personalised flight numbers are used for training missions in order to monitor student progress very closely.The pass rate of a percentage of 95 for skill tests is probably the highest in Belgium, putting Ostend Air College FTO amongst the leading training organisations in the European theatre.Last but not least Ostend Air College is a member of the Joint Aviation Training Group, which maintains excellent relationship with a lot of recruiting departments of several carriers.
